The Whitbread Trophy
This year the Whitbread Trophy was played at Cheshire Polo Club and once again between a Young England team and young Scotland. Following fouls by England close to their own goal, Scotland were 2- 0 up within two minutes. With a 60 yard penalty to England, the score was 2-1 at the end of the first chukka and there it remained until the final whistle. There was no shortage of opportunities for both teams to score field and penalty goals in what was a closely fought match. There were some good individual runs by the two one goal players, Angus Rowan-Hamilton and Henry Brown who was particularly well mounted, in the last chukka the players were beginning to appreciate the value of hitting not tapping. Players and supporters were very well looked after by Cheshire Polo Club and the going on the sandy ground was good in spite of the lack of rain.
