Monday 20th June was the anniversary of Eduardo Moore's death. Below is a tribute from Luis E. Lalor, President of the AAP.
Eduardo "Gordo" Moore
Marking the 25th anniversary of his death, the Argentina Polo Association met to pay Eduardo a well-deserved tribute. Edwardo Moore was not only an excellent person, but he will be always remembered for his part in the enormous growth of our sport.
Undoubtedly, his way of playing marked a change of the style of play. His exquisite horsemanship and his incredible skill with the stick (which he handled like a pen) enabled him to become the master of the game with innovative variations for orthodoxy. His style has since been copied by many successful players.
He was unbeatable in England, France and the United States with his 10 goal handicap, and in Argentina with a handicap of 9 goals but his significance was not limited to that. he also became the most highly respected ‘horse dealer’. He trained and exported hundreds of horses not only to traditional markets, but also to those less well known at the time such as Borneo and Saudi Arabia among others.
But perhaps his most important aspect was the generosity and selflessness with which he helped so many young polo players to improve their game and make their way in the professional field. His house in Carlos Casares was an incredibly cosmopolitan, international, conglomerate where sport, laughter and family came together. Eduardo treated everyone as an equal from the Duke of Edinburgh to the most humble of his collaborators. I had the privilege of knowing him and will remember him always.
