JAVIER NOVILLO ASTRADA TO COACH ENGLAND POLO TEAM

The HPA has announced the appointment of Javier Novilla Astrada as the new England polo team coach with immediate effect. The Argentine player, with a handicap of 9, has won every major tournament worldwide including the Argentine Open. He will work closely with the recently appointed team manager Andrew Hine, in a new look England team management.

 

Commenting on the appointment, HPA Chief Executive David Woodd said, “We are delighted that Javier has agreed to be the England coach. He is highly respected and brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience from which the English players will benefit greatly. This is an important appointment for our top players and we are grateful to Audi for their support and making it possible.”

 

Javier Novillo Astrada won the Argentine Open in 2003 and in doing so secured the triple crown of polo with his team La Aguada. Commenting on his appointment he said, “I am very much looking forward to working with Andrew Hine and the England polo team. The HPA have been very progressive with the development of the national team and I look forward to being part of it both here and in Argentina.

 

The new management’s first task is to plan the downfall of New Zealand at the Williams De Broe Test match, at the Beaufort Polo Club on Saturday 21st June. All eyes then turn to the Cartier International at Guards Polo Club on Sunday 27th July where they take on Australia. The St Regis Test match at Cowdray will be England’s third and final home match of the year.
