Cartier International 2007
Chile beat England 9-8 in a tight contest yesterday to raise the Cornonation Cup at Guards Polo Club infront of a crowd of over 20,000.
Blessed with sunshine (for once this summer) the first half of the game was really dominated by England but Huidobro took control in the fourth chukka and Chile moved three goals ahead. It took England until the last to start pulling goals back and it looked like a seventh chukka was going to be needed as England went to goal in the last ten seconds but the ball was pushed over the back line and there was no time for a counter attack.
The Chilean supporters were clearly delighted and it was a most fitting tribute to Gabriel Donoso that his brother should raise the cup for the game that was played in his memory.
Earlier in the day the Prince of Wales' team took on the Hurlingham Polo Assocation in what was a good show case of good fast open team polo. Hurlingham ran out the winners by half a goal to win the Golden Jubilee Cup (8.5 - 8).
