Important Information regarding Horse PassportsThere have been significant changes to the horse passporting process. As of the 1st July 2009, all horses being issued with a passport must be issued with a Microchip as a part of the identification and passport application process - this can only be carried out by a veterinary surgeon. If your pony already has a passport issued by a recognised Passport Issuing Organisation (full list of PIOs on DEFRA website www.direct.gov.uk/horsepassports ) then you will not need to apply for a new passport and do not need to get your pony microchiped.
Due to the new legislation it has been necessary to alter the format of the current HPA passports, we hope to have the new passport booklets available by 26th June so please contact the HPA Office if you need any. DEFRA have allowed a few days for a cross over period so any passport applications received up until Friday 3rd July can be accepted in the old/current passport booklet. From the Friday 3rd July we can only accept the new format booklet with the required microchip information included.
