Congratulations to the England team who beat America 10 - 9 on Saturday to win the Westchester Cup.
America was very unlucky to lose Mike Azarro (9 goals) with a broken collar bone on Thursday. He was replaced by Jeff Hall (8 goals) but they had to change their line up, the team work of the England team gave England the lead at half time after a tightly umpired and rather uninspiring stop start first 3 chukkas. In the fourth chukka the Americans came out and set the match alight with some electric play from their no 3, Nick Roldan. The last 2 chukkas were neck and neck with every player and pony on the field giving 110 percent. Both teams led at various stages but England went into a one goal lead with just over 2 minutes to go and managed to hold onto it until the final whistle. It was a nerve racking last few minutes with both teams having several close chances.
The game, which was played in a very sporting manner, was well umpired by Carlos Gracida and Roberto Gonzales who were strict in the first half but let the game flow in the second. As is often the case, the one goal received on handicap proved to be crucial. The England team received a lot of support and help from other players based in Palm Beach.
