InsuranceHPA members’ public liability scheme for the period 1st April 2005 – 31st March 2006 has been renewed through new brokers Hamilton & Partners Ltd who have placed the policy with Brit Insurance Ltd, an A rated insurer. This coverage indemnifies individual HPA members for damage or injury caused to third parties for which they are held liable at law. The HPA as the administrator on behalf of the members will hold the policy documentation with copies available to any individual members on request. However, some key points are as follows:- a) Limit of Indemnity
b) Territorial Limits
c) Coverage Members are covered for their liability at law to third parties for injury or property damage resulting from playing, practising, coaching (not for gain), umpiring polo or from their ownership of polo ponies. It is particularly important to note: (i). The coverage applies to individual members of the HPA and not to clubs themselves who should ensure that they have their own liability policies. (ii). The damage caused by one player to another player in the course of playing or practicing is not covered. The HPA registration application makes it clear that members should understand that polo is a dangerous sport and that participation in the sport is at their own risk. In the past the HPA has been able to arrange a low level of player to player coverage for its members but this is not now obtainable at a worthwhile level or at a feasible cost. Individuals should make their own arrangements regarding cover for medical expenses or personal accident cover as they would in any other sporting activity according to their requirements. (iii) Members who are involved in coaching, provided that they are not rewarded for it are covered.Coaches who receive payment need to obtain their own liability coverage, as does a club if it employs a coach. (iv) Ponies holding a polo passport are covered throughout the year for damage or injury they may cause to third parties for which members are held responsible. However, death or injury to the ponies themselves is not covered. These should be insured for all risks of mortality as required by their owners. The HPA recommend Hamilton & Partners to you for all your own Polo and Property requirements. Please contact:
