Injured Players and Officials’ Fund
The Injured Players’ and Officials’ Fund has been set up as part of the HPA membership and is funded by the subscriptions.
The fund may only be used for the benefit of:
The Hurlingham Magazine. Once your address has been passed to the HPA by your club the HPA will then inform the publishers. Please note that you will only receive the Summer edition if we receive your name prior to 1st June; you will receive the Winter edition from 1st October.
A full associate playing member of the HPA who has paid his HPA subscription and received his membership card. The member must have been injured as a direct result of a horse related polo activity whilst in the United Kingdom or Ireland (playing, practising, schooling, exercising, umpiring or officiating but excluding vehicle related activity such as driving to polo).
A club official such as a goal judge or Welfare officer subject to the club concerned providing satisfactory evidence that the person was injured whilst acting in an official capacity within the club and as a result of a polo incident.
Before any payment can be made, the legitimacy of the request must be established. Then, in the case of damage to the teeth or the loss of an eye, a basic payment of £2000 may be made subject to proof of that amount having been spent. Players especially professionals who are unable to play as a result, may also apply for a grant from the Polo Charity.
In the case of a life changing injury, a payment of up to £50,000 may be made but the facts of each case will be considered on their individual merits by a committee appointed at the beginning of each outdoor season by the HPA Executive. The discretion of the committee in the amount paid out is absolute and there can be no appeal.
It is asked that all charity events held at clubs contribute £500 or 5% of the takings whichever is the lesser amount, to the Polo Charity.
