Every effort is made by the HPA and the clubs to reinforce to all participants that polo is a dangerous sport and that participation of the sport is at each individual’s own risk. Players should therefore take every precaution to protect their person, wellbeing and income if an injury were to leave them temporarily incapacitated, permanently injured or disabled.

Employers’ Liability:

Any player, who could be considered an employer in the eyes of the law, must buy Employers’ Liability – this is a legal requirement.

If your handicap is 2 goals or less and or you own less than 10 ponies, provided you are an HPA Member, you can buy employers’ liability protection as a stand-alone policy – see the Members Employers’ Liability section here.

Public Liability:

Please refer to the detail under Members 3rd Party insurance.

If your handicap is 3 goals or more and or you own more than 10 ponies, the HPA’s Members 3rd Party Public Liability policy will not protect the exposure your ponies present to anyone else or their property.  This exposure is your responsibility and cannot be assumed by another if you are a professional player.  If you fit into this category you will likely need Employers’ Liability coverage too.  These can be bought as a Combined Liability Policy.

NOTE:
If you are hiring ponies commercially, either to coaches or instructors for teaching polo or to other individual players, you should consider your liability exposure under the Riding Establishment Act License requirements.  If you have any questions, first contact your local council for their interpretation of you activities.

Personal Accident:

Every effort is made by the HPA and the clubs to reinforce to all participants that polo is a dangerous sport and that participation of the sport is at each individual’s own risk.  Players should therefore take every precaution to protect their person, wellbeing and income if an injury were to leave them temporarily incapacitated, permanently injured or disabled.  To obtain a quote, complete the application found at the link below and send directly to Lycetts.
