Insurance - Coaches liability insurance

The HPA has decided that all coaches and instructors must show evidence of liability coverage in order to get an HPA accreditation, please click on the following link to read up on the rules that apply to coaching. http://www.hpa-polo.co.uk/membership/coaching.asp.

This coverage, which runs concurrently with the HPA Members’ insurance provides for up to £5,000,000 of coverage for any accredited coach in Great Britain, Ireland, Northern Ireland , Channel Islands, Isle of Man.

This insurance protects you in the event that you are found legally liable for bodily injury or property damage suffered by a pupil or another third party during the course of instruction.  The insurance indemnifies you for the costs of the defence and/or the damages awarded by the courts should you be found liable, up to the maximum limit of indemnity that you choose. (£1million, £2million or £3 million).  Cover is purely for your activities as a coach / instructor and includes lectures, demonstrations, etc. and though this is restricted to your coaching in the UK, it does extend to include the same activities if you go abroad with a team or a player that you normally coach in the UK.  Please note that it would not extend to cover your coaching or instructing abroad, such as a clinic or teaching tour.

It is also important for you to note that if you use your own ponies to provide instruction you should contact your local authority in order to establish whether you are required to hold a license under the terms of the Riding Establishment Acts 1964 & 1970.

Please click here for the application.

Should you wish to discuss the coverage further or review the policy document, please contact Lycetts.
