Qualified Coaches' & Instructors' Public Liability Insurance

Coaches that have been specifically appointed to coach on behalf of the HPA qualify for insurance cover under the HPA Member’s Policy.

Only Professional Coaches (i.e. those who coach for gain) are listed on the HPA website.

If you wish to be listed as a professional coach on the HPA website you must register annually with the HPA, providing a current First Aid Certificate and a copy of your insurance policy document.

Insurance for freelance HPA coaches and instructors may be provided by a parent association such as a club or teaching establishment.

If you are unable to provide proof of coverage in accordance with the registration qualifications, and you are giving lessons to pupils on their own horses (i.e not owned by or provided by you or any of your employees), the HPA has arranged Public Liability Insurance for HPA qualified Coaches and Instructors through Lycett, Browne-Swinburne & Douglas Ltd.

This policy will indemnify you against your legal liability to pay damages (including claimant’s cost, fees and expenses) in accordance with the law within the European Union up to the maximum limit of indemnity stated in the policy.

This indemnity applies only to such legal liability as defined in the Policy arising in the course of instruction.

Cover is purely for your activities as a freelance coach and/or instructor and includes lectures, demonstrations etc. And although this is restricted to your coaching in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, it does extend to include the same activities if you go abroad with a team or a player that you normally coach in the UK. Please note that it would not extend to cover your coaching or instructing abroad, such as a clinic or teaching tour.

It is important to note that you will need to arrange separate or additional cover to that available through the “HPA Qualified Coaches & Instructors Public Liability Policy” if:

a.        You are coaching on behalf of a club, polo school or any other operation requiring registration under the Riding Establishments Act.

OR

b.       You are giving lessons to pupils on horses owned by you or provided by you or any of your employees

If you are unclear as to the cover required for your coaching activities please contact LYCETTS for further information.

It is important that you do not admit liability or make any offer or promise of payment without written consent of the Insurers.

It is intended that for the 2014 season (1st April – 31st March) the registration fee for all HPA coaches and instructors will include public liability insurance.
