Qualified Coaches' & Instructors' Public Liability Insurance
The HPA offer qualified Coaches and Instructors Public Liability insurance cover. This is through Lycett, Browne-Swinburne & Douglass Ltd with the International Insurance Company of Hannover Ltd. The period covered runs annually from 1st April to 31st March both days inclusive.
Please note that this page is intended as a summary only. For full policy details please CLICK HERE · All HPA qualified coaches and instructors who coach or instruct as freelance individuals. The definition of freelance with respect to this coverage is where the coach or instructor is giving lessons for a fee to a pupil on the pupil’s own pony or ponies. The pony is not owned or supplied by the coach or instructor or anyone in their employ. It does however recognise that on occasion, the coach or instructor may give a lesson including the use of a pony owned by the coach or instructor, in order to teach a point of technique but only where it can be proven without any doubt that the pony’s primary function is not a ‘school pony’. All these individuals will now be covered under the new HPA Coaches & Instructors Public Liability Policy. Please note: · This policy will indemnify you against your legal liability to pay damages (including claimants’ costs, fees and expenses) in accordance with the law within the European Union up to the maximum limit of indemnity stated in the policy. · This indemnity applies only to such legal liability as defined in this Policy arising in the course of instruction. · Cover is purely for your activities as a freelance coach and/or instructor and includes lectures, demonstrations, etc. and although this is restricted to your coaching in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, it does extend to include the same activities if you go abroad with a team or a player that you normally coach in the UK. Please note that it would not extend to cover your coaching or instructing abroad, such as a clinic or teaching tour. This insurance does NOT provide coverage for: · Those who coach on behalf of the HPA or the Pony Club and entirely for free. These individuals are insured under the HPA’s Members Public Liability policy providing that there registration has been processed by the HPA for 2011. · Anyone not deemed a freelance coach or instructor. This includes those working at polo schools, polo clubs offering lessons and for any operation requiring insurance under the Riding Establishments Act 1964 and any subsequent amendment.
