Overseas Matches

Each season the HPA are invited to send teams to take part in overseas matches. Updates are posted below.

 

 2013

 

 April

 

 

 

 

 Argentina An England team has been entered for a second year in the Copa de las Naciones, a 22 goal international tournament run by the Argentine Polo Association and due to be played at Palermo from 9th to 21st April.  The opposition teams are yet to be confirmed but England will be represented by brothers Luke (7) and Mark Tomlinson(7), Ollie Cudmore (5) and Matt Perry (3) who will be making his debut as an England player. All those selected have been playing in Argentina and will be playing off their Argentine handicaps.

Australia On Sunday 7th April, England has been invited by the Australian Polo Federation to field a 24 goal team to play Australia at Windsor Polo Club just outside Sydney. The England team will again be captained by James Beim (7) who will be supported by Ed Hitchman (5), James Harper (6), and Tom Morley (6). Also invited to play that day is a 21 and Under team and for that match England will be represented by Freddie Dear (2), Charlie Scott (2), Issie Parsons (2) and Harold Hodges (2).

 Australia At the invitation of the Victoria Polo Association, James Beim (7) lead an 18 goal England team to play against a Southern Australian team at Werribee Park, Melbourne, on Saturday 23rd February. He was joined by his brother, Tom Beim (3), Ollie Cudmore (4) and Sam Gairdiner (4). Their opposition was Corin Gibbs (4), Ruki Baillieu (7), Greg Keyte (5) and Gill McLachlan (4).

Result:Australia 7 - England 6.5

 South Africa The following players have been selected by the HPA development committee for a one week training course with Buster MacKenzie in South Africa from 15th – 25th February, costs have been subsidised by the HPA: Terence Lent, Jack Hyde, Tom Brodie, Sebastian Hancock, Henry Letts and Edward Banner-Eve.

Argentina The following children took part in an exchange programme to visit Marcus Uranga’s family in Open Door, Argentina in February: Charlie Townsend, Edward Walker, Jasmine Stanhope-White and Luke Wiles.
 

The following children took part in an exchange programme to play in the AAP children’s tournament at Coronel Suarez, Argentina in February: Will Penfold, Ollie Cork, Marcus Cork, Tom Townsend, Hugo Taylor and Thomas Coid.

America Congratualtions to England who beat America 11 -10 for the Townsend International Challenge Cup at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. Max Charlton, Oliver Hipwood, Sebastian Dawnay

South Africa The following players were selected by the HPA development committee to attend a one week training course with Buster MacKenzie in South Africa in December 2012, costs were subsidised by the HPA: Ollie Cork, Harry Hutchings, Nathan Kian Hall, Thomas Coid, Hugo Taylor, John Dalton-Morgan, James McCarthy, James Fewster and Tom Townsend.

China The HPA sent two teams, an England team and an England Under 16 team, to play in China in the Fortune Heights Super Nations Cup 2012 at Metropolitan Polo Club from 1st - 5th October.

England: James Harper, James Beim, Mark Tomlinson and Ollie Cudmore. Reserve: Henry Fisher. Results: England were defeated 8 - 6 by China  in a close match for the subsidiary final. 

 England Under 16's: Sebastian Hancock, Tommy Beresford, Ed Banner-Eve and Tom Brodie. Results:The team made it through to the final where they were  defeated 7 - 5.5 by Argentina. It was a close fought battle with England leading at half time. South Africa defeated USA in subsidiary final 3 - 2.

 

 April 

 

 

Argentina Congratulations to the 'Rest of the World' team of Ollie Cudmore, Charlie Hanbury, Malcolm Borwick and Mark Tomlinson who beat Brazil 11-4 in their final game of the 22 goal tournament in Palermo to secure second place.

 

 March 

 

 

 

Chile Having won their practice game on Saturday 24th March, the following England team captained by Mark Tomlinson were defeated by a strong Chilean team on Sunday 25th March at Club de Polo y Equitación San Cristóbal. Ollie Cudmore 4, Charlie Hanbury 4, Malcolm Borwick 6 and Mark Tomlinson 6.

New Zealand The following team of young players based in New Zealand for the winter represented Young England to play against a New Zealand Colts team for The Gibley Cup on Friday 3rd February. Tabba Woodd (0), Toby Pitts (1), Oscar Mathies (1) and Tom Lamacraft (1).

Result: New Zealand Colts 6. Young England 5.

China Chris Hyde will lead a 16 goal team to play the China Snow Polo World Cup at the Metropolitan Polo Club on from Tuesday 31st January to Sunday 12th February. He will be joined by Jamie Le Hardy and Max Charlton and the team will be coached by Alan Kent who will also act as reserve.

South Africa The following players have been selected by the HPA development committee for an intensive one week training course with Buster MacKenzie in South Africa in December 2011: Sebastian Hancock, Jack Hyde, Tom Brodie, Terence Lent, Harry Hickmet, Izzy McGregor and Lolly Stanhope-White.

China The Young England Team of Max Hutchinson, Barney Wilson, William Berner and Charlie Scott will play in an under 18's International at the Metroplitan Polo Club, Tianjin, China on 5th and 6th October.

Result: Having won their first match Young England lost to USA in the final 4 - 5.5.

FIP The England team of Nick Britten-Long, Ed Hitchman, Max Charlton and Jack Richardson qualified in second place in the European play offs for the FIP World Cup. The finals commenced on 10th October at Estancia Grande Polo Club, in San Luis, Argentina.

Result: Young England beat Young France 9 - 3.

 Argentina The England team of Luke and Mark Tomlinson, James Beim and Malcolm Borwick will play the Argentine team of Tomas Garbarini, Valerio Zubiaurre Jr, Gonzalo Pieres Jr, and Facundo Pieres for the Copa de Las Naciaones on Thursday 21st April.

 

 February

China Ollie Hipwood, Ollie Cudmore and Max Routledge will fly to China to represent England in the inaugural International Snow Polo Tournament at the Metropolitan Polo Club near Tianjin between the 14th and 21st February.

Result - England won beating Argentina in the final 7 - 6

Thailand On Sunday 13th February England will take on a 14 goal South East Asian team at Harald Link’s Thai Polo Club in Pattaya. The team, captained by Ollie Hipwood (6), will include Ollie Cudmore (3), Max Routledge (4) and James Carr (0).

Result: England 6 Thailand 4

India Satnam Dhillon will lead a 14 goal team to play against India in Delhi on Sunday 6th February. He will be joined by Max Charlton (4), Eden Omerod (3) and James Carr (0).

Result: India 6 England 4
