EOS Handicap Changes Following Appeals
Click here to view the final list of handicap changes for all remaining players following the additional end of season handicap meeting to iron out the appeals. These handicaps are subject to ratification by the Stewards and effective from 01.01.2019.
Due to the nature of the handicap committee many of the -2 players have not been seen by members of the HPA Handicap Committee and thus those players who were initially raised in handicap but have now been lowered were lowered on the sole recommendation of their main club or where they were known to have played most or all of their polo, if that was known to us.
A club can raise the handicap of a player at any time, this can be automatic for those playing off a minus handicap. Next season if a player is out of line with another player this can be raised at the mid-season handicap meeting and there will be no requirement to wait until the end of the season to raise that player.
The HPA wants to encourage players to get better. We certainly don’t want to discourage players from playing. Currently there appears to be a widespread desire to keep players down on -1 and -2 as that enables the other players in the team to be of a higher handicap. There is no incentive to get better, in fact it is the reverse. The net result is of course more expensive polo if you have to pay for those other players.
